Kukai founded this temple in 811. There are five temples whichi has Jizo Bosatsu as its main deity; however, this is the only one with Enmei Jizo Bosatsu.
The Inner Sanctum contains he 500 Rakan(arhats; enlightened disciples of Buddha) statues. As well, there are two wells where you can here when even when a drop of water reaches the water below.
One is beside the Main Hall and the other is close to the stairs after walking in from the Main Gate.
